I just received an e-mail this morning saying that blogrush is shutting down.  I believe that John Reese had the best intentions when he came up with BlogRush.  For those of you who don’t know BlogRush was a widget with links in the same niche as your blog, and for every impression (every time your page loads) you get a credit.  For every credit you have, your latest post will appear in a widget on another blog.

What I liked about it is that if you refer a friend to use BlogRush, you will also get their credits added to yours.  So if you had 10 impressions and your friend had 30, that means your blog post wil appear in 30 websites who had the BlogRush Widget (sort of Network Marketing for blogs).

I knew they where having some security issues and a lot of abuse which ended up lowering CTR (Click Through Rate) on the widget.  I liked John Reese’s closing statement in his e-mail.

“Last but not least I want to say that I hope the failure of this service doesn’t in any way discourage other entrepreneurs from coming up with crazy ideas at 4AM (like I did with this one) and from “going for it” to just try and see if something will work.  Without trying there can be no success.  And as we all know, ideas are worthless without action.  The Web wouldn’t be what it is today without entrepreneurs trying all sorts of crazy ideas.”

I read somewhere that he had put in around $400,000 out of his own pocket for this project, he never tried to monetize it and even though he had offers he didn’t sell BlogRush.  Can’t wait for your next project John, Godspeed.
